Reading Literature Reviews

Reading Literature ReviewsWriting the literature review can be a very rewarding way to learn about the history of literature. Through reading and analyzing, you will find that there are many different points of view on how to write literature reviews. These points of view can be broken down into three sections: Mainstream, Social Commentary, and Alternative. By analyzing these points of view, you will find that the whole purpose of writing a literature review is to present an overview of the entirety of literature.Mainstream means that you are reviewing the works that are considered 'mainstream' to you personally. The purpose of this section is to gather your viewpoints as to how the works can be categorized as well as which points of view you agree with and which you do not. For example, you might think that Shakespeare's plays are so great, but perhaps they were not meant for everybody. For this reason, you may want to ask yourself if the plays of Shakespeare would work for you per sonally.Social Commentary means that you are reviewing the works in your opinion that fits more into the realm of social commentary. This would include books, movies, and other forms of media that deal with social issues. For example, movies such as these would fall under this category.Alternative means that you are reviewing the works that fall outside of the mainstream of literature. The purpose of this section would be to discuss your findings regarding the works that you have chosen. There are works that are quite famous within the realm of literature and one might find yourself shocked at the number of works that fall outside of the mainstream. For this reason, you might want to question if the works were intended for you personally, or if it was written by an unknown writer to make a name for himself.Mainstream Literature means that the works you are reviewing are considered mainstream literature. This type of literature means that the works in question have been in print and are being sold to the public. If you are going to review mainstream literature, you will need to make sure that you read the book so that you know what you are reading and what the readers need to know. With a reader, you need to make sure that you follow what they are trying to say and try to answer the questions they might have. For this reason, it is important to avoid making changes, nor having the book rewritten as you review the book for other people.Although Social Commentary is the section you will be focusing on most, if you are planning on writing a literature review, then it is important to understand that a true literature review is one that deals with all aspects of literature. Although it is not very much of a difficult task, you still need to choose the point of view that you will present to the reader. Regardless of what point of view you choose, you must remember that this review should be completely objective in nature.
